Portion Control for Diabetics
Those with diabetes know just how important managing what they eat and portion control is. Eating too much or too little can throw your blood glucose levels out of whack. It’s a careful balance that is individual to each person, depending on the severity of the disease. If you’re diabetic and have been eating healthily but have still been dealing with fluxes in your blood sugar, maybe your portions aren’t correct.
Simply using smaller plates and cups can help you manage your portion sizes. Smaller plates make it appear you have more food, which tricks your brain into thinking it’s eating a lot. Half of your plate should contain vegetables or fruit, while one quarter should be dedicated to protein and the other quarter should be dedicated to grains or starches. Having smaller glasses of drinks, such as sweet tea, also can cut down on how much sugar your body is taking in. Studies even show that people who eat and drink from smaller dishes tend to feel just as satisfied as those who eat from larger ones. And they’re healthier, too!
