Klondike Leadership Academy 2018 Launch
You may or may not know it, but we here at HealthCARE Express have our own free leadership program for children called Klondike Leadership Academy. Klondike Leadership Academy (KLA) is focused on creating a legacy of leaders within our communities and within the world. This program is for children in kindergarten to fifth grade.
Klondike Leadership Academy is designed to create a spirit of leadership in today’s children. It focuses on core concepts of responsibility, accountability, and taking action in areas like the community, home life, or school. This program encourages children to tackle tasks without being prompted, to help where they can with what they can, and to be an active part of their communities. Our goal is to teach children within the program what it means to be a leader, and how they can be one. To do so, we have seven Skill Sets for children to explore to learn just what it takes to be a great leader: Yes I Can, Work Comes Before Play, Listen Before You Speak, Together is Better, Help to Inspire Others, Commitment, and Leaders are Readers. By combining all the knowledge and skills they accumulate during their time as a KLA Kid, children will be set to step out into the world as a leader to inspire those around them to do the same.
Last year’s KLA Session started at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year. The kids that were part of this session had all year long to complete tasks in the KLA curriculum to earn points for a chance to win the grand prize: a trip for the winner and one of their parents/guardians to go on a Disney Cruise! How awesome is that? Over 600 kids across four different states (Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana) participated in the 2017-2018 KLA session, but all KLA’s Top Scholars came from Pleasant Grove Intermediate School in Texarkana, TX!
Theia Neuman, a 5th grader, and Kennedy Gibson, a 4th grader, were the two winners of our Grand Prize and Top Scholar Awards. Both of these girls worked extremely hard this year, and we’re all so proud of them. Theia earned 6,445 points and Kennedy earned 4,260 points— both well deserving of their prize.
