As Sweet as a Peach
Have you ever heard the phrase, “As sweet as a peach?” While peaches are naturally quite sweet, did you know that many companies that sell pre-sliced and packaged peach cups add in a lot of sugar? Some brands of fruit cups have up to 22 grams of sugar— that’s about 10 grams of sugar more than what naturally occurs in a peach!
There’s a simple solution to packing these sugar-filled cups of fruit in your child’s lunch box this school year. It’s as easy as cutting up your own peaches! We even have an easy way to cut them.
First, hold the peach in hand and use a paring knife to make a cut down to the pit of the peach. Then, cut another ½ inch slice parallel to the first cut. If you flick the blade of the paring knife toward the direction of the first slice you cut, the piece of fruit will come off easily.
Store the cut peaches in a sealed container and pack it in with the rest of your child’s lunch. They’ll be able to savor the deliciousness of a fresh peach without all the added sugar!
